Summary

So thirty days. And if you didn't notice, there are definitely NOT 90 outfit posts from us gals. It's funny. I kept meaning to write about what I wore, or what I thought about it. I even meant to put up my 30 items. But alas, I would put it off until it just wasn't worth it. That and I would have to use elaborate set-ups to try and even get a blurry half-assed photo (which for the record, I kind of like.)

Like this one.

So what do I think about the exercise? It's an interesting one. But towards the end, it drags on and on. Not to mention, in order to make 30 "complete" outfits - you don't pick the things you wear most, you pick what will go with other things. I started missing pieces that I absolutely love but couldn't wear. I do understand the whole "commit to something damnit!" (And yes, we girls for the most part kept it very strictly on the 30/30. Minus some sweats and some formal events/birthdays heh.) And as mentioned, it's also tedious to do.

But the bright side is that it made me really pay attention to what I wore in the morning. And while Krod would flounce into class wearing the most adorable things all day-every day. I would not. I would definitely wear the same flannel shirt, the same boots, etc. It was just easier. But having the blog made me really pay attention to what I wore. Why didn't I dress up more often? What's wrong with some more color? (The comparisons to outfits that the other girls wore also helped to see where my closet could definitely use a pretty sailor top, etc.) The no-shopping rule was also broken by at least two, if not more parties. I refrain from naming who to protect the innocent.

The focus though was great - it makes you look at your closet and realize that at some point you loved each article you bought or were given. And that if you didn't, they should go. It's just a space filler at that point. It also made me realize what I liked about fashion - the ability to project how you feel today, and the artistic license to do so everyday. I hate to quote the devil wears prada - but it is more important, because my crappy art is something I put on, and is then in some ways an extension of what I feel and say.

11.5
(I get existential. I'm an English major - sorry.)

So overall, I liked the project. I would definitely recommend doing it again, but maybe at a later date. And with a few months of shopping in between.

Krod/Kdef - what did you guys think?

Day 28

DSC00958

DSC00959

skirt, cardigan, urban hosiery

I think I waver from little boy to schoolgirl. Alas, I don't have someone to take my photos for me, and so my make shift camera stand will have to do.

I skipped a few outfits because when I was recovering from this weekend/during the weekend I didn't give a hoot about sartorial choices. Hoot.

Day 25

End in sight.

Jeans, gap sweater, white button down

These sunglasses were stolen from a guy whose spot we stole who later sat down and tried to make conversation at some bar. I keep these as a momento of such nights.

Day 22

Has it really been 22 days of February? Or even more worrysome, has it really been almost 22 years?
22.1

22.3

leggings, madewell white shirt, hat, sparkly red nails, jcrew sweater, invisible bag

22.5

I was aiming for cute - I think it came out blurry and bemused.

Day 21

Day 21, during which I got up, and decided to look cute in the morning. Believe me, this doesn't happen very often. Which is why it's just that much more funny I have a "fashion" blog. (I prefer to think of this as a "blog" for which lots of funny things happen that might have a sartorial splash.)

Anyways.

day 21.3

day 21.2

them black lace up boots, gap jeans, jcrew white tank, black undertank (which isn't part of 30/30 but hey! A girl's gotta be conservative these days.) Blazer. Grey hat.

And the reason I look emo and downward? Not because of life, but simply because I have this thing where I think it better to spare viewers than look upon The Face That Has Not Slept In Forever. Sorry Kdef. Just pretend there's something cat-like and cute on the ground.

Day 20

I skipped a few days during which I wore Sweatpants and a Sweatshirt, and my roommate's father came to visit and later inquired if I was alright, because I looked sad.

I wore this during the day. But if you wake up at 1pm, you really can't say in-the-morning.

day 20
Gap chambray shirt, leggings, oxford shirt, grey hat, booooties,
some crappy necklace I wore as a bracelet.

Later that night, I changed because it was dear Krod's birthday. Then we went, and had a doozy of a good time. Hey, you only turn 22 once.

DSC00872

leggings, blazer, camel sweater, rings
(There was a cute hat, but it didn't make it through the photo process. Pity.)

day 20.3

This is what happens when you play around with the fireworks settings.

(Cue Katy Perry).

Day 16

I barely stayed up til 2 o'clock last night, and today everything hurts. I feel quite old.

Annnnnnnnnnnd, the quizzical face

gap sweater, thrifted houndstooth skirt, sparkly tights, lace up boots, fake tattoo

I do wear more than pants. The warm weather means skirts season, and by warm weather I mean ...35.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Day 15

Gap zipper tee, dying belt, black gap skirt, those bootie shoes (that you can't see.)

Who doesn't love mac book photos?

Day 11

Happy V-day guys. This time of year people tend to be hating on everything romantic. But I got dinner with Krod & A, and am now having a platonic study date with Kdef (who probably counts as my heterosexual non-sexual life partner.) And I keep reminding myself how lovely it is to not have to deal with being in that hazy state of "are we or aren't we?" Or spending it alone. So on this V-day - I'm seeing the silver lining. And it reminds me that I'm ...10 days behind on this 30 30 thing. Or something.

11.1

11.2

Oh. And because we are showing costumes. I was invited on the lovely 11th Friday of February, to a "time machine" party. I went as a nerd. (Is it strange that I had the Harry Potter glasses and electric blue zebra suspenders in my closet already? No?)

11.5

Wait. No once more!

11.3

Black jbrand jeans, pink j crew button up, suspenders, hat, (and shoes that aren't part of the 30/30 but it's ok because it's a costume. And I would never wear this outfit in public or anything. Or all day. Ever.)

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Day 9

9.1

9.2

9.3

uniqlo acid jeggings, black lace up boots, red also scarf, gap chambray shirt, crazy hair

Every type I try to categorize my outfits, I end up sounding like an editorial. Uniqlo grey acid jeggings! Oooh.

It's below zero right now. And while I swear I am all rainbows and daisies 90% of the time, the cold just froze the smile off my face. This is my cold face.

Day 8

DSC00814

Oxford shirt, gap jeans, gap cardigan, sporto boots

I have no idea how to pose for this thing.

Day 7

7.1

7.2

Grey marled sweater, some sort of undershirt, jbrand black jeans, hat, same damn boots

Day 7, showcasing my favorite purchase of winter 2010 - the grey sweater. The sheer amount of grey I have in my closet is impressive, if maybe depressing. I like monochromatic color schemes, ok?

Photo credits go to J, a friend. This was the conversation we had today.

Me: "Hey do you have ten minutes?...what are you doing right now?"
Him: "I'm about to drop off the rent check. Why what's up?"
Me: "Ok, you can't laugh at me. I need ...you to take photos of me...It's for this blog thing."
Him: "(pause) yea Krod told me about this."

And as he was leaving:

Me: "You can't laugh ok!?"
Him: "I've been laughing this whole time...on the inside."

Today is a snow day

Today is a homework day. And maybe you fashionable girls can study in a cute top with some trendy heels but I am a hoodie and sweatpants, dear-god-please-let-me-finish-this-essay type of studier. So I'm going to daydream about spring and all the beautiful things I see that I in no way can afford.

Behold.

Rag & Bone, Burberry, & Balmain. (In some sort of haphazard order.)

I've been dreaming of spring lately.

Introductions - Shoe

1. Name, blah blah relevant information

Shoe. Senior. English major, econ minor. Currently in the midst of a snowy Chicago winter.

2. How would you describe your style?

I wouldn't. Compared to the other girls, I feel the least knowledgeable about what I wear. Clean? Comfortable? Those are my concerns when/if I wake up in time for class. If I were pressed to say something like "skater LA boy and old british grandma go hand in hand to a club." But in the spirit of honesty - clean.

3. Why are you doing this?

Because.

4. But really.

...I wouldn't take me too seriously.

5. Style Icons.

Don't really have a ton. Girls who seem to put themselves together very easily and still look completely distinct. Kate Lamphear, Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo. I'm sure there are more.

6. Favorite cat video.

Oh, there's just so many.
